Saint Augustine of Canterbury
St. Augustine, Bishop of Canterbury, in England, who, having been sent along with other monks by the Pope [Saint Gregory I Magnus] to preach the word of God to the angloes, was readily embraced by the King Ethelbert of Kent, and imitating the Apostolic Church primitive life, welcomed the King himself and many others to the Christian faith and established some episcopal sees in this land. He died on 26 May (604/605).
