Saint Nicholas of Flüe
In the mountainous region commonly called Ranft, near Sachseln, Switzerland, Saint Nicholas of Flüe, who, by divine inspiration, willing of another kind of life left his wife and ten children, retreating into the hills to embrace the life of hermit, where he became famous by his hard penance and contempt for the world. From his cell he only came out once, and it was to appease those who were about to engage in a civil war with a brief exhortation.
