• Saint Asterius of Petra

  Saint Asterius, Bishop of Petra in Arabia, s. IV. He took part in the religious strife of his time. It was initially affiliated to the Party of the Arians, but at the Council of Sardica (347) was part of the orthodoxy, and helped unmask the intrigues of his former coreligionists. Constantius banished him to the sands of Libya, from where came the advent of Julian the apostate. In 362 appears at the Council of Alexandria next [St. Athanasius], who makes his praise in several of his writings. He died some time later.
