  Saint Nicholas Pieck or Pick along with other ten Franciscans of the convent of the small Dutch town of Gorcum, along with eight other priests and religious, were martyred by the Calvinists in Brielle by refusing to forsake their faith and, in particular, to withdraw their obedience to the Pope.
