Saint Athanasius
Memory of St. Athanasius, Bishop and doctor of the Church, who, illustrious by his Holiness and doctrine, in Alexandria of Egypt, he defended with courage the Catholic faith since the time of the Emperor Constantine to Valens, supporting numerous schemes by the Arians and being banished on several occasions. Finally, he returned to the Church that had been entrusted to him and, after many battles and many victories for their patience, he rested in the peace of Christ in the forty-sixth anniversary of his episcopal ordination. Main opponent of Arianism. Father of orthodoxy. Acclaimed Doctor of Orthodoxy the year 1568 by Pius V.
