Memory of Saint Boniface, Bishop and martyr, who was monk in England under the name of Wifrid for baptism, but arrived in Rome, the Pope [saint Gregory II] ordered him Bishop, changing it to Boniface and sending him to Germany to announce to those peoples the faith of Christ, where he managed to earn many people as Christians. He governed the see of Mainz and towards the end of his life, visiting the Friesians, in Dokkum was killed by Pagans, thus causing his martyrdom. Roman martyrology
