In the monastery of Grottaferrata, in the region of Frascati, near Rome, saint Bartholomew, Abbot, who, born in Calabria, went to the encounter of saint Nilo, whose life and customs he left in writing, was at his side at the end of his life, in the tusculan monastery which had been founded under the Eastern ascetic discipline, and continued his work turning it into a school of science and art.
