Saint Lawrence

August 10th III century

Feast of St. Lawrence, Deacon and martyr, which wanted to ardently join papa Sixtus II in his martyrdom. According to Saint Leo the Great, he was ordered by the tyrant to deliver the treasures of the Church, and he, mocking, presented them to the poor on whose livelihoods and shelter he had spent abundant riches. Through the faith of Christ, three days later he outpointed the torment of the fire, and the instrument of his torture became distinctive of his triumph, being buried his body in the cemetery of Field Summer, which was called with his name since then.
