In Mantua, in Lombardy, transit of saint Anselm, who, being Bishop of Lucca, in the investiture controversy, most faithful to the Rome headquarters, placed in the hands of the Pope [saint Gregory VII]the ring and the crosier which, reluctantly, had received from the hands of the Emperor Henry IV and expelled from the headquarters by the canons who rejected the community life. He was sent to Lombardy as legate of the Pope, for whom he was a courageous collaborator. Roman martyrology
