In the monastery of Göttweig in Austria, St. Altmann, Bishop of Passau, who founded many houses of clerics following the rule of St. Augustine, restored the discipline of the clergy, and expelled from its headquarters by the Emperor henry IV for defending the freedom of the Church, died in exile.
